Of the four districts that comprise Rath City, Trither Valley is the second largest, spanning many square miles of fertile soil along the Blue River to Trael Wood on its eastern borders.

Trither Valley hosts the city’s primary shipping facilities as well as its industrial nerve centre. Each week, farmers bring their harvest from the surrounding fields down into Trither to sell at market.

It also contains some resources that are critical for the prosperity and well-being of Rath. Notable among these is Caibre’s Eternal Forge. Its fires are said to be the only ones capable of producing alloys made from the mythical asterite.

Overview: Although the Seat of Empire and Kaiat Koldu have their own historical claims to being founded first, it was in Trither Valley that Rath truly laid its foundations – in food. From antiquity, farmers have hauled their wares into the streets by the cartload so that townsfolk could eat. To accommodate this increase in traffic, Trither Valley established the city’s first docks. Vegetables and grains from the far west of the Empire made their way to the Valley by ship, where they were unloaded for distribution. Thus, if the fields of the west are the empire’s granaries, Trither Valley is its belly.

Alongside its ports and markets, Trither attracted guilds as it grew. Rath encouraged these societies to take control over their respective crafts. As the industries in Trither Valley prospered, so too did the Guild of Magicians, the College of Heralds, and many others that vied to establish themselves as leaders in the civic sphere. At the same time, old rivalries, seeded before Rath even existed, flared up once more with new purpose. This competition contributed greatly to the district’s success.

In contrast to the urban bustle of the other districts, Trither Valley represents a more natural side of life. Few other places can boast an area of hundreds of acres devoted to a single tree. That tree is Elfhome, the ancient dragon tree, whose sprawling branches tower high above even the greatest structures here. Relationships between Rath and the elves have not always been cordial, but the two eventually came together in common cause. In appreciation, King Athard Raffin granted the elves permission to remain in Trither and continue to live upon the land for all time.

Dwarves have also built homes within walking distance of the great tree, clearing the surrounding rocks almost a millennium ago to create the vast furnace called Caibre’s Eternal Forge. No one truly knows what secrets they used to build the vast kiln from which steam escapes, blown through giant copper vents that operate night and day. However it was done, all the Empire knows that the finest magic is worked there. Blades and spears come out infused with power, their energy trapped inside perfectly tempered iron or steel or etched into fragile lacquers and varnishes.

Today, Trither Valley perfectly encapsulates the Empire itself: a heartland of industry and agriculture, run by wise administrators, and living as it always has with one race peacefully coexisting alongside the other – though not without a generous dose of healthy competition. Ships departing Trither’s docks represent lifelines of commerce stretching off in every direction beyond our domain.

Wingold Shipyards

As you make your way down the steps into the shadows of the shipyard, your senses are assaulted by a cacophony of hammering and shouting, along with seaweed and harbour spray. Planks have been strategically laid out to enable travel between the stacks of lumber and coiled rope. Cranes loom above you, their heavy stone counterweights swaying slowly in the sea breeze.

Ahead is a slipway, the half constructed carcass of a ship wallowing at its centre, propped up by scaffolding expertly constructed around it. Even at this distance you can smell the tar daubed liberally on the hull to make it watertight.

For the workers of Wingold Shipyard, this gigantic craft is just one of many. The interior is dark and seemingly empty, the decks yet to be constructed. Yet soon, another vast ocean vessel will shudder to life, its prow breaching the waves for the first time.

Small Three-Masted Carrack, “Lucy”.

If speed is your concern, Lucy is your vessel of choice. This beautiful carrack hosts three lateen-rigged sails of finest canvas, with a crow’s nest mounted on the mizzenmast.

“Lucy” can be crewed with as few as twelve sailors. Belowdecks, she features a generous cargo hold and crew beds for up to twenty, as well as a galley. These factors make “Lucy” an essential buy for the enterprising merchant!

Stock: 1.
Price: 2,250 gold 50 silver.

Ship of the Line, First-Rate, “Defiance”.

Pirates and smuggler fleets will flee – or fall – before your wrath while manning the helm of “Defiance”! She is the pride of our dry dock, and it’s not hard to appreciate why. Naval engagements are almost always won by whoever has the most powerful guns. “Defiance” comes equipped with 74 cannons ready for a broadside volley of explosive firepower.

Belowdecks, this 990 ton vessel has crew quarters, galleys, and recreation areas for the required complement of 280 sailors. There’s more than enough space for an additional 200 soldiers or marines to repel boarders.

All the weaponry of “Defiance” would be worthless if it could not carry precious cargo. She has integrated cranes to lift bundles from its vast hold, which can bear up to 400 tons of cargo without noticeable effects on maneuverability, thanks to her powerful series of square-rigged sails.

5. Notable Locations

First Bank of Corslada

Housing the vast wealth of the Corsladan Pirates, the First Bank of Corslada is a reinforced vault in the heart of Rath’s capital city. The first floor was designed to store records and keep all sorts of contraband locked up and out of reach from prying eyes, while the second level houses the money itself. The Bank offers many services, from traditional storage facilities for private individuals to special deals for high-ranking officials of the government.

One thing that it does not lack is safety. Those who walk into the bank are being watched by multiple sets of eyes at any given time. Elite armed knights patrol the perimeter and the internal halls. It’s also whispered the bank has purchased other types of personnel to help its cause. Some have even been rumored to be supernatural creatures…

Deposit. Citizens and non-citizens of Corslada alike may deposit their spare change, gems, trinkets, artwork, valuable artifacts, jewelry, coins, stamps, or any other objects which might prove difficult to move from place to place without attracting thieves’ attention. The Bank may even pay some interest on deposits made by certain parties.

Loans. The Bank offers loans and lines of credit to anyone with enough collateral. While they will happily accept anything as payment, one can get better terms if one happens to own some form of precious treasure.

Personal Vault. Those who need to store expensive items in private may purchase an account for themselves, giving them access to a secure space where no one else can get to their goods. They will still be watched over by guards, but their property will remain safely tucked away behind several locks and keys. This service comes with a fee, depending on how much security is needed.

Grand Temple of Daylas

The Grand Temple of Daylas is one of the largest religious buildings in the entire Empire. Led by the dwarf Archpriest Torendral Greatmantle, its cavernous architecture hosts prayer sessions and blessings for the congregation every day.

Many of the faithful travel from across the empire to take part in these rites, while others simply live nearby. As an added bonus, there are often interesting exhibitions, performances, and events held on site that attract a varied audience of pilgrims.

The Goddess Daylas is commonly associated with preservation and rebirth. For that reason, her Temple’s services revolve around healing all ills – physical, mental, and social.

Arbiter of Fairness. If you are embroiled in a dispute that you do not yet wish to bring before the authorities, the clergy of Daylas can help. It is our duty to lessen social tensions. We will act as impartial counsellors to both sides if you need an equitable and just ruling.

Divine Favors. A donation of two gold coins is well-received by the Temple for each boon below.

Boon of Health: For the next 24 hours, you are immune to all Diseases.

Boon of Recovery: Once in the next 24 hours, you may use an Action to recover half your Maximum HP.

Boon of the Unfettered: Once in the next 24 hours, you may use an Action to free yourself from any form of restraints.

Touch of the First Frost. No charge. Snow and ice is placed in a small wooden bowl. No heat is used. The bowl is left to sit in the palm of one’s hand. Use this time to close your eyes, reflect, and contemplate. Once you are well rested, two fingers are dipped into the melted snow, and an icicle or line is drawn on your forehead, or on the forehead of one who you wish to bring peace and tranqulity.
